Silver-eyed Irissa, the Torloc seeress, travels the Gates between Worlds with her companion, Kendric the Wrathman, to return to her home world, Edanvant. The Edanvant she finds is a strife-torn planet - a family that is no longer a family, a people divided against itself.
Finorian, the only other living seeress, is threatened by Orvath, whose heart is frozen from the scars of an icy battle. Orvath, and the amulets which give his men their own magical powers, have turned the Torlocs away from Finorian. Orvath will never give in to Finorian. Finorian will never give in to Orvath. Only Irissa can break the deadlock and restore Edanvant to peace.
But the evil wizard Geronfrey is trying to steal Irissa's very essence. He plays a malignant part in the strife that seems to distort all living creatures on Edanvant, even Edanvant itself . . . even Kendric and Irissa.
