The Witch of Blackbird Pond

Author: Elizabeth George Speare

Cover Design: Robin Jacques

Sixteen-year old Kit Tyler reminded Nat Eaton of a bright bird of paradise when she first arrived at the little Connecticut settlement of Saybrook. But the year was 1687, and her free ways and independent spirit soon brought her into conflict with the strict Puritan community who lived there. So, although she doffed her finery and tried her best to accept the rigid discipline and hard work, they never really accepted her. And when she taught an unloved child to read and rescued a gentle old Quaker woman about to be burned for a witch they accused her too, of witchcraft and threw her in jail to be tried for her life.
