Thirst!

Author: Charles Eric Maine

The Death of Water

1975

Record summer temperatures create disturbing drought problems in areas of traditionally high rainfall. Volcano and earthquake activity on increase.

1976

Hottest summer since records began causes serious drought. Strict water rationing introduced in many areas by government order. Violent quakes and earth tremors rock Europe.

197?

Sea-levels drop all over the world at acclerating rate. Government censorship can't conceal the fact that something has gone nightmarishly wrong. No more oceans means no more rain - ever - as evaporation ceases. The whole world faces terminal drought.

A world that may be only as far away as next summer . . .

The Bookbug thinks that this 1958 work of fiction resonates now as much as it did after the hot summer of 1976 which may have triggered the rerelease in this format in 1977. Keep telling yourself, it's only a novel . . .
